Wix Filters.

Don't see them listed often. I'll research them some more

I watched a YT vid about them a couple months back. US made, and they exceed all vehicle maker specs. Well built and good shit - believe most (all?) O'Reilly Auto parts stores sell them.

That's where I source most of my stuff, anyway. Got the big 3 around us, but O'Reilly has done me right in the past. Actually looked into their house products too, but they don't make filters

You can find them on Amazon the easiest. I don't remember if any auto parts stores carry them. I don't hit the autoparts stores unless "I need it now." All the engine guys swear Wix are the best filters. Wix makes all kinds of industrial quality filters.

I use OEM filters. Sometimes you have to get them from a dealer, but you can usually get (some) domestics at the parts store.

Especially on the one car that has the filter on the top and no drainback valve. All aftermarket garbage isn't made right.

Filter in the top

My Subaru has a vertical mounted filter, is that what you mean?

[–] 1 pt

Yes, it's a Subaru. If you're changing the oil on a Subaru, then use an OEM filter. The aftermarket stuff is trash.

You can buy them by the case (12) for about $100 from online Subaru parts dealers, and they usually come with the crush washer for the drain plug. Make sure to use a new one each time on that as well.

Funny too, I remember when I worked at Subaru the old folks would come in and do exactly what you said, buying cases of filter and occasionally oil at a time.

avoid FRAM like your life depends on it.

Tests show the newer Synthetic and Endurance lines are pretty solid. And that grippy rubber on the bottom is pretty nice

[–] 1 pt

Do what you will. Fram has been the worst made filter for a very long time.

What do you use?

[–] 1 pt

Doesn't really matter if you change every 5k. Oil quality matters more.

Lol even there, I read the mirror on both sides of which is more important. I just wanna take baby steps to learn more about cars, but lack any family or parental figures to ask this stuff of

I used to use OEM, Purolator, Mann, Bilstein or Bosch. Some of these might be Europe only?

Puro and Bosch are burger side too. Bosch is highly regarded. Puro I've seen mixed results for.
