Those old Toyota and Nissan engines from the 70's and 80's are bullet proof - damn near impossible to destroy them unless you are purposely trying to. The only American engines like that were the old small block Chevys and the Chrysler Slant-6.

This guy has been around a few Toyotas! And probably everything else.

My first new vehicle was a 1983 Toyota 4x4 with 22R and a 5 speed. I lifted it 3" put 33x12.5/15s on gold/chrome on 10" modulars under it, painted urethane fender flares to keep it street legal. The 22R was pretty numb with the big tires but got 20MPG and was a beast on the trails back in the day.
