Yeah, no thanks. I don't mind paying a bit for convenience but that is ridiculous.

Transverse v6?

[–] 0 pt 3mo

Yes. Chevy 3.6L. The back three aren't that much of a pain if you use a magnetic swivel socket. I should have asked them if they planned on taking the intake manifold off, because that isn't necessary. When I asked if I heard the price right he started talking about how he uses AC Delco iridiums. Like my guy those are about 15 bucks a piece.

So the first reason for the cost was the spark plugs and not the labor. Alrighty then.

And at least you can get to yours with the right tools.

Did you redeem, Saar?

[–] 2 pts 3mo

I don't get the saar thing. I saw it a few times on X. I know it has something to do with Indians.

[–] 4 pts 3mo

Indians trying to say Sir...they want you to buy gift cards to and send them the numbers but don't redeem them into your account. They want to sell them for cash.

[–] 2 pts 3mo

lol.. and people fall for that crap.

[–] 3 pts 3mo

That's how pajeets pronounce "Sir" when they try to scam you over the phone.

[–] 1 pt 3mo

Ah thank you for clearing that up. I haven't personally had that culturally enriched experience.

My Focus has it's plugs right on the top, down through the head. It's literally 20 minutes in and out. Ford sent me a special offer for $250 to change the plugs.

It's so easy and cheap I do it once a year in the middle of summer.

[–] 2 pts 3mo

Once a year? Plugs last for a decade these days. How much do you drive? Are you driving as you reply?

[–] 1 pt 3mo

It's cheap maintenance. I don't care how long they last, I can do it, it doesn't cost much.

[–] 1 pt 3mo

Your name is now Handybird. There are vehicles these days that you have to damn near pull the motor to get the back plugs, it's ridiculous. I used to do all my own maintenance but I bought a 2018 Lariat ecoboost. It's only got 46k km on it and I've opened the hood twice 🤣

The back three cylinders are a little tricky to get to on the Impala, but it still only takes about an hour tops. See my response to SoSickOfBlacks.

250 is nuts for any easy setup like that.

Wish I knew cars. I got quoted 200 to replace the battery terminals on my truck

YouTube that shit!

This! Had dad's 2005 Buick LeSabre after he passed. So 11 years in and with 80,000 miles on it, the needles on the gages started to have sword fights - completely whacked. Got a pic of the instrument cluster registering 120 mph when I was stopped at an intersection level borked. Asked the dealership: $800 for a new instrument cluster - plus labor. Hard nope.

YouTube revealed it was the stepper motors on the gages, and that a parts kit complete with mini soldering iron could be had for ~$20. Watched that vid pbly 10 times, tore everything apart, replaced parts, put it back together, and... It worked! I was amazed!

My only regret was I opted to not replace some of the tiny led light bulbs in the cluster even though they were included with the kit. Because it was literally 2 or 3 days after my repair that one of the originals blew out...

Good stuff!

I've only had to take apart a dash once and it wasn't fun. Was hard to get everything back together snug.

Never under estimate my ability to fuck up automobiles
