Yet another reason that people don't want to buy EV's. It takes 5 minutes to fill up a gas tank and there are gas stations all over the place.

I was unaware charging stations slowed the charge rate at 80%.. as if I needed another reason to not own an EV..

If you charge from 40% to 80% and you assume 20% of that is basically non-existent due to the finicky nature of battery capacity (i.e. battery degradation and the weather), you're left with 20% of the expected operating range. Thats only suitable for short commutes in a large population area.

It is a "safety" and "longevity" feature. With these huge lithium based batteries you should basically never charge to 100% unless you have to. It is actually bad for the battery and will damage it. That is also part of why it starts to "slow charge" after reaching 80%, any extra "heating" of the batter (which happens while it is charging) is also bad for the battery and its lifespan.

Ill stick to my gas tank getting filled to full in 5 minutes. Oh, and how energy prices have been? It costs either the same or MORE to charge a EV which was what they tried to sell you on "It will cost 5$ to charge your car" no, its going to cost just as much as filling your tank. The energy has to come from somewhere and that somewhere is often a COAL or Natural Gas power plant since we think Nuclar is evil still.
