after we moved it was only 6mi. away
Could you hear them from your backyard?! Lol!
Hahaha, I wish! Would be better to actually see them. A couple of brothers bought the track a few years ago. Put money into it, fixing it up and expanding it. Now I see an article from Feb., saying they've cancelled most of the '24 season events and have put it up for lease or sale, nobody seems to know why. Their website no longer supports my browser, so no clue what's happening with it now. Makes me sad we've only been there a handful of times since we moved here. :(
Where we lived before, was an old 1930's era, 4-suiter apartment building with stores down below. We could go outside on the back stair landing and watch the city's fireworks a half mile down the street at the high school. Couldn't see the ground displays, but could see everything else. Really, really miss that! 🎆
I would not be surprised if insurance rates had a lot to do with the reduced season at that track. The insurance companies have made insurance too expensive and/or restrictive for most budget race tracks. The snowmobile races here were virtually wiped out because of insurance premiums starting about 30 years ago.
It really wasn't such a slouch of a track, especially after the renovations.
Been in business since the late '50s, early '60s, sanctioned by all the racing bodies, had all the big names racing there, special events, grudge night, hot dog eliminator (had to down a dog and a drink, then get in the car and go down the track!😂), what a shame.
Yeah, you're probably right and the insurance bastards had a lot to do with it. Doesn't make sense to me to price your product so high it forces closures. Can't get any premiums from a defunct business! 🙄
