Only about $35k in today's money. About as much as another fast dodge you can still pick up today.

You could buy one of these restored superbirds (classiccars.com)as described, but not for $35K.

I'll be honest, I've been a huge muscle car guy my entire life. Lately, these rich pricks have really ruined it for me. Once was an obtainable dream, is difficult to achieve nowadays. The used car market is in The trash and getting something half way decent as a project car, guys are asking way too much for. Even the cars that werent so popular 15 years ago, are going up in prices. I'm about done trying my luck in getting one.

In a lot of "will it run" YT videos the guys seem to find some good deals on old stuff that needs work. No superbirds though. Watching the ads here I've seen about 1 in 25 ads for the older stuff that has what appears to be a reasonable price for what it is. Most sellers are smoking crack if they think their yard art is worth half of what they ask.

I'd probably have more fun in an old 20 footer with patina, nice interior, ls swap and 5 speed than a $100K classic. It sucks with the nicest ones, don't want to beat on it, dent it, scratch it, get it wet, get it dirty, keep all the chrome perfect, keep the miles down... More of an investment ... to be enjoyed as little as possible.

When I was just out of high school, a pal and I were out at the track. Per his agreement, since I beat his time trials, I got to race a Baracuda in his Plymouth Road Runner, down the quarter mile on amateur night at the local drag strip.

Of course, I lost, but what fun it was! He was kind of smug and arrogant, so beating his times alone, was worth the price of admission! 😂

I loved those hot summer nights in my youth. I made it out to amateur night and a few drag shows a few times each year. Somewhere I have slides I shot of the dragsters, funny cars and some of my local friends rides. I loved the funny cars with wheelie bars with magnesium pads... Sparks flying behind them most all the way down the track. Loud! Damned loud! The smells of VP racing fuel and burning rubber. Beautiful, trim and fit young ladies everywhere. Drinking age was 18 and the beer was ice cold. Good times. Even my old Pinto made it out to the drags for a few runs.
