I'm not too concerned because even if EVs are given away, they're not worth owning. There's a high cost of ownership: tires, batteries, chargers, insurance, repairs and so on.

EVs are a non-starter without heavy subsidies. The entire industry is on the verge of imploding on itself because they are horribly expensive to buy and maintain, impractical and not safe. They are totally unsuitable for mass individual transport as the infrastructure required to keep mass EVs charged does not exist and could not be built without investing multiple of the current infrastructure spending (basically spend your entire GDP on energy infrastructure).

EVs were never meant to replace ICE cars, they were meant as a means to ban all cars, to remove the ability of individual people to travel freely. There was never any realistic situation in which EVs would be owned and usable by the masses, the plan was for them to be available to a very limited number of obedient people, for very limited purposes. Most people will be... dead, and most of the survivors will not be allowed to use an EV.
