Excessively worn plugs can definitely cause misfire issues. Potentially even air fuel ratio issues. Most vehicles have a replacement interval between 60k to 100k for spark plugs. I would definitely throw a new plugs at it if it's over.
As for the issue remaining, it sounds a lot like it's a transmission issue. Bring it to a reputable transmission shop to see if they can give you an accurate diagnosis as to what it may be. But be warned, transmission repairs are not cheap. But if you're going to go that route, make sure you go to a shop that has a warranty policy that they will honor.
OK So replaced plugs and it no longer seemed to have issues, and then it started up again. I was driving it and it just died - engine was off, but everything else was on and with no interupption. The only reason I knew it died was I was pressing gas and it stopped accelerating.
The only two codes I am getting are P0101 and P0404 - I have not yet replaced the EGR valve.
