Check throttle body. See if it's gunked up. If it is, Clean it
If the idle air control valve is separate from the throttle body, check resistance to see if it has any. If there is zero ohms, it's bad, which can cause random stalling.
This is actually next on my list - I replaced the MAF sensor already as I kept getting a code on possible sensor or air flow problems. No issues with air, so I replaced the sensor. No more code, but issue remains...
It only seems to occur when the car is in an idle state - highway speeds but letting off the throttle and coasting, the car will die. At a stop light while braking, it will die.. Etc...
My wife's boss (bless her heart, lol) mentioned spark plugs and now she's obsessed. They're probably 60K miles old, so I should probably replace while I am under the hood anyways. Any bad plugs would make engine noise but not kill the engine, right?
Excessively worn plugs can definitely cause misfire issues. Potentially even air fuel ratio issues. Most vehicles have a replacement interval between 60k to 100k for spark plugs. I would definitely throw a new plugs at it if it's over.
As for the issue remaining, it sounds a lot like it's a transmission issue. Bring it to a reputable transmission shop to see if they can give you an accurate diagnosis as to what it may be. But be warned, transmission repairs are not cheap. But if you're going to go that route, make sure you go to a shop that has a warranty policy that they will honor.
OK So replaced plugs and it no longer seemed to have issues, and then it started up again. I was driving it and it just died - engine was off, but everything else was on and with no interupption. The only reason I knew it died was I was pressing gas and it stopped accelerating.
The only two codes I am getting are P0101 and P0404 - I have not yet replaced the EGR valve.
