The only EVs I think that ever worked and served their drivers were the DIY ones that people started making decades ago.

There were a lot of semi-commercial hobby kit cars you could buy that were electric. I remember seeing one that looked like a Duesenberg that I almost bought - but the lead-acid battery bank was expensive and it had a range of about 60 miles. It was cool, but completely impractical, wouldn't even get me to work and back.
