There are tips to help mitigate the effects of the heat
Yeah, buy a gas vehicle
wowzers, wait till you see how electric cars feel about the very cold.
(edit to add)
when i moved the east from the west (USA) i had one person ask me if it was true we had to keep our cars running at all times with AC blasting to keep our electric from melting. I told him i never heard of that but any vehicle that relies too much on electricity to make the car usable will be in for it, because it does get hot enough to melt the electric stuff inside a car, slowly over the years. people with shade to park in are blessed.
I can't believe people are all in on the electric car thing. I currently live in AZ. The plain ole battery in my gas car has to be replaced frequently from the heat - usually free because it's always under warrantee when it dies. When I lived in VT, I rode a 125cc scooter as my main form of transportation and gave up even trying to keep the battery alive in it, I'd just kick start it.
Batteries don't like extremes in temperatures. I'm assuming it's because the chemicals used don't like extremes. Most stuff you buy will say "store in a cool, dry place" and you can't exactly do that easily with a vehicle you actually need to use.
I remember my mom used to own one of those cars with the four interlocking circles as their logo. it was slightly fancy but very old, and we moved to AZ, shortly after the car died haha, all the electric melted and it was just about useless.
Audi ....
In conventional batteries it's the lead plates inside that overheat.
It doesn't matter if the electric car actually works or not. What matters is that owning one makes the owners feel so much better about themselves...
theres also some other strong negatives! they can shut down the grid and you wont be mobilized anymore. Your car runs out of juice, and youre done. Also, RC cars! if the big baddies hate you and notice you enough, they could drive you off a cliff or into a wall. I've seen indications of Elon Musk being a satanist! So, not super excited about the future being battery powered. This huge push for electric, and the US has one of the worst, out of date power grid you could imagine.
Yep, it's all about control...
EVs, in their current state, with our current level of battery tech, aren't the answer, stay with a gas car...
However, the article is poorly written. Full of conjecture and opinion.
They state the battery sees a dip of 31% of capacity because of the heat when its over 100 degrees, because you cool the passenger cabin.
Which is wrong, you use the energy from the battery for cooling the passenger cabin. Those systems on electric cars are horribly inefficient.
They suggest you leave it plugged in at home while cooling, and park it out of the sun as the way to mitigate this concern...
Well. The honest answer is mitigation, is stop being a bitch, get in the car, roll the windows down and drive with good old 260 AC.
Its July, its hot all over the US right now. People bitching about the expenditure of energy on AC in electric car. Stating it lowers energy available are horribly disingenuous. It doesnt lower the energy available, it does however cause a person to use that energy for something other than driving the car...
The idiots who are buying these things arent considering that basic fact.
The real concern is long term reliability... Which doesnt affect the guys who live in forever car payments.
That car has x KW hours of electricity stored. and will store x KW y times before the value of x decreases, and it will only store the new x for a time, then decrease again. At some point these cars become garbage as the battery pack costs as much as a new car in some cases.
so youre telling me these fucking morons needed to have 10+ car companies make dozens of models of EVs for a decade and they had to be put into the real world before they could comprehend that batteries don't work well in the heat or cold....
i don't believe that. we're being led by malicious ppl using retards as foot soldiers to destroy society so it can be upended and ruled over by cocksuckers who will put 98% of humanity in a box so they can live like demi-gods.
Gonna be 111F here in Tucson again today. Even regular car batteries die quicker here because of the heat.
So you get 300 mile range but you're not supposed to charge more than 80% or use less than 20%. So that's already 60% of your advertised range, or only 180 miles. Then you lose an extra 41% if it's below 20f. So your advertised 300mi EV only gets around 100mi of range in the cold if you properly charge and discharge the battery. How is this not false advertising?
So they’re not good in hot weather. And they’re not good in cold weather…. The future is stupid.
and salt water makes them blow up
Forgot about that one. We could always add in the inability to unlock the doors from the inside when things go wrong, or the uncontrolled acceleration.
…but I suppose every car has it’s “quirks.” There was the whole uncontrolled acceleration of Toyotas some time ago that (at least according to the rumors) was caused by the floor mat getting jammed under the pedal.
Another archive without the tracking: https://archive.ph/fDIOh
Is archive.is not good to use? I find it hard to keep up with all this. It is what I've always used.
It's fine. The ".is" one is constantly DNS poisoned, even where the others work (which makes me go hmm?). It's harder for me to use. Your original link had a tracking element. I archived so I could read it and I dropped the tracker.
AFAIK, you're fine.
If I were you I'd edit the post to use Noisy's link. not that i know much about this kind of thing but it's cool you all do. i never realized they were tracking our web traffic like that and you could dodge it by using an archive. learned that a bit ago. cool stuff
