I'm not sure we are on the same page here. I'm not talking muscle car. I'm talking about the BASE platforms of those cars and yeah you can grab them up even as rag Tops for around 30K maybe a bit more. As for daily driving it I agree its not a good option but I don't think he's planning on doing that anyway. I treated my Chevelle's that way LONG before it was thing because in those days there was no Year One or NPD where you could order quarters and fenders etc for. You wanted a replacement? off to the boneyard you went. They didn't go out in the rain or cloudy days etc, But I also regret that because they weren't made to be museum pieces, they were made to drive. So it's a tough rope to walk whether or not to truly USE it because as you say, 1 bonehead and poof ..gone. that is what keeps ME from doing little more than looking anymore. I'd Love to have a 69 or 70 El Camino but WHY? it'll almost never go out so what's the point. In any case. I hope he finds something he likes and is happy with.

This is why i was making the point. You get one, and then want to keep it so nice you never use it. Even the base models.

My first car was a 70 Malibu actually. this was the 80s, and it was clapped out 4 door. I regret the teenager things I did to it. But I also had a great time with that car! Welded shut the rear doors. put in 454 from a yard, scrounged up an edelbrock, a holly and some headers, mated it to a th400. brakes? body work? paint?... kek... I did eventually have to get actual exhaust on it, i was getting pulled over way too often. drove it till I got out of high school, sold it for way more than I had in it. I should have known right then.

Today, no one would treat that car that way. even the 4 door malibu...

Which is why I personally dont recommend classic muscle to anyone who isn't already well versed.

Those guys, arent asking questions like this, here.

WE used to refer to those a FAKE HYPO'S. My cousin did something similar with his 70 impala right down to putting a T handle on his column automatic lol
