I've kind of had the feeling for a while that electric cars will be the compact fluorescent of the automotive world. It's a solution that will solve problems and be more effective than the old - until the better thing comes along.

Charging speed is only a factor if you're driving more than 300 miles without a break.

Which people do all the time. Nobody wants to drive 80 miles, then have to stop for ten minutes, and so on, and so on. And come on, you know that ten minutes would turn into twenty minutes, or thirty minutes, if there was any kind of hold up.

Weird. I drive 22,000 miles per year and the number of times I've taken my personal car more than 300 miles in one day over the last decade is zero.

Do the 18-minute charge and drive 200 miles between stops. That's barely time to take a piss and get the kids to stop whining about not getting candy.
