To start off, I did not lease it to "save the environment." I don't believe in that bullshit. I leased it to save money. All the articles like "I drove from NYC to LA for $10" or whatever got me interested.

Truth is, it is definitely cheaper to drive. For about $12, I get almost 400 miles. That is like 3/4 less of what I paid for the same miles in my jeep. The car is incredible to drive. It is quick: 0 - 60 in less than six seconds -- so your head actually snaps back from the G-force when you hit the pedal. It is super comfortable. And it has just amazing technology (it is semi automated driving and regenerates electricity when you step off the gas pedal -- among many other things.

However, it is inconvenient as fuck. I live in an apartment, so I don't have a garage. Which means I have to find a charging station. The highest power available is 150kwh -- which takes a good 45 minutes to get to the recommended 80%.

And if I did have a garage, an 110w outlet would take 48 hours to charge. However, I can come home every night and just plug it in every night.

TL;DR: Don't get an electric car unless you have a garage or home where you can charge it every night.

Or you could pay about $200 to have an electrician install a 40-amp 220V outlet. That will give you about 40 miles of driving for every hour it's plugged in.

Don't get an electric car unless you have a garage or home where you can charge it every night.

"Don't get an electric car" should go without saying. They are an environmental nightmare and inconvenient as all hell. Try towing a trailer with one up a mountain in Colorado. But you'd better hope there is a charging station 3-quarters of the way up. Don't even think of leasing one in a cold part of the country. Battery performance degrades significantly in the cold. Plus, they catch fire -- spectacularly. Even if the batteries don't burn the car to a cinder, they will need replacing in a couple of years, and they are expensive. And a bitch to dispose of -- but the liberals don't care about that, because that's someone else's problem, right?

I dunno. After driving one for the past 11 years I find gas cars to be far more inconvenient and expensive. I don't have to get "tune ups" or oil changes or brake jobs.

That's like saying don't buy a motorcycle because you can't use it to tow shit up a mountain. What kind of moron would try it in the first place? That's not what they're for.

It's uncommon to need to replace a battery any time within the normal lifespan of a car. They are warranted for 100,000 - 150,000 miles, depending on the manufacturer and most last far beyond that. Electricity costs 3 cents per mile (US average). If your car lasts only 100,000 miles you save $8,000 in fuel alone, and $12,000 if it lasts 150,000 miles.
