If the earlier hybrids are any indication, don't do it. The amount of warranty claims that came through on them were through the roof. And that's assuming the batteries would hold a charge, which often times they wouldn't, and you'd wind up with worse mpg than just buying the gasoline model
I'm with you. I'd still wait it out until batteries and God knows what other problems are thoroughly worked out.
