you could pretty much replace the cutlass and the escort and taurus with Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon and you get almost identical results. Camrys were built around the corner from me here for 40 years.

GM America demanded bailout money from the Australian government simply because they owned the Holden brand which was fully profitable and got told to go fuck themselves, so they raped a multi billion dollar investment in the VE/VF Commodore which was actually available in the us but they never advertised because they didnt want it to sell and announced they were shutting down our factories, then went and opened a new plant in mexico and payed GM workers a fat bonus and started importing shit korean cars aussies would refuse to buy, intentionally branded a front wheel drive hatchback piece of shit with some crap 2 litre engine a 'Commodore' (it probably would have sold if they had just called it 'Insignia' which is what it is... as it happened, no one who had bought commodores for decades would go near them) and shut down a 100 year old brand. Ford then decided they didnt have to compete locally anymore and shut down their manufacturing here and fucking up Geelong, and then Toyota just shrugged their shoulders and fucked off as well.

Oh before shutting everything down, just to fuck with us a bit more, see that chart up the top there i compared with our cars? Yeah all of those brands went 'oh Australians dont want family sedans anymore, no one buys them (despite Camry) Australia wants SUVs!' and then started pumping out shit toy steroidal two wheel drives, or over the top massive 8 litre trucks that cost upwards of $80,000 for less than what youd get in a decent traditional 4wd. (looking at you Raptor and Laramie)

Funny thing with the Ford shit they build now is other people can link your car to their fucking phone and do all kinds of funky shit with the ford app (remote starting, tracking, shutdown, etc) which got to be a bit of a problem with rentals in the US for a while.
