Oh for fucks sake, here is the deal with this, electric cars......they need electricity. This is the achilles heal of the electric car. Current electrical generation is majority fossil fuel based. Also there is no excess of capacity to accommodate the load of converting to all electric cars. Regardless of lack of generation, the grid would need a major overhaul to support all those electric cars charging. The grid simply can not handle such an inrush of load. It simply cant handle it regardless of generation capacity. See where this is going. To upgrade the grid to accommodate the load to displace gas vehicles would take a superhuman effort and you simply wont see it in your lifetime.
As to the renewables for generation.... The windmills need fossil fuel to make them and are not viable without government subsidies. They have a limited lifespan, require wind to operate and are not a constant source of power as the wind is not always blowing. Solar panels, dream on. Now where exactly is all this electricity coming from if they do not use oil and gas or coal to generate the power? Unless there is a major, major breakthrough in power generation such as zero point energy or some other exotic form of generation, the electric car is actually a no go. In fact the more north you go the less viable the electric car is. You see winter makes the electric car almost worthless unless you are only doing short trips and charge it.
Ford knows this, the government knows this and the utilities know this. But it sounds good on paper I guess. Perhaps a 30 - 40% electric vehicles might be possible in say 25 years. This of course assumes a new source of electrical generation and a major overhaul of the grid down to residential distribution.
Very well said. Ford and everyone else knows this is BS.
This bold statement is just sucking up to the current fauxministration.
