My dad wants a little space heater to put on the counter in his bathroom but all I can find are digital and complicated. I want one that has to be turned on by a physical dial that works as a timer. I hope that makes sense.

I’ve scrolled Walmart and Amazon and can’t seem to find one.

I think you're looking for a countdown timer, like other people said just get a normal on-off type and leave it on, then plug it into this thing:

Although this one probably fits your bill of a "physical dial"

These are US-type, sorry if you're a eurotard.

As for the space heater itself, this one was issued to me by the army over 15 years ago and still works fantastic. It's got a switch in the base that turns off it flips over.

It sounds like you want to buy an old space heater.

Do not under any circumstances buy an old space heater. Do not any circumstances use an old space heater. They are not safe and have can fail and kill people in a myriad of ways.

I used to work at a summer camp, one of my campers and his younger sister died a horrifying death because of a space heater. The worst part is that he lived for a day afterwards before he died.

Do not use an old space heater.

Definitely. Thanks. I need something just like I described. There has to be a new one out there. Like a kitchen timer. Mechanical.

Timer outlet in socket?

[Edit: didn't read the rest of the thread, sounds like cheesface had the answer]

I appreciate ya. And it could be digital too. Just needs to have no way of staying on and no extra steps.

This one might be ideal, no way to leave it on accidentally

I love it. So simple. I am worried about if it can handle a little heater that draws 1,500 watts. I think in amps it’s like 15 amps.

There’s something about 8.x amps in the details. I’ll have to research more. Don’t want to create another hazard.

If anyone knows anything about electricity, let me know.

Oh, you're right sorry

I see reviews talking about using even higher draw….1,800 watts.

We have the new little heater now. I’ve ordered the plug timer. I’ll test it myself. The stats are confusing.

The little heater we bought has three setting. Low, med, high. So, like 750 watts, 900 watts, and 1,400 watts. I can block the high setting if need be. There are enough protections in place between the heater, timer, built-in breaker at the wall plate, then the breaker in the panel to prevent a disaster. I’ll report back. It won’t get here for a week.

He bought and started using the new heater outside of my request. This is the type of behavior I have to constantly monitor.

oil heaters are best, no they dont need oil just heat with it. Very safe

Kinda large though comparatively.

Yeah not the right fit. Thank you though.

Find a space heater that is a simple on/off and use a separate device between the space heater and the outlet.

He can’t remember turning things off besides dealing with smart plugs.

I have one of those. I used to use it to let greasy clothes soak in the washer. Worried it won’t hold up to the draw from a heater.

And it’s more steps. He can’t keep up with extra steps. I need something that’s one step. He can turn it on. One step. And it turns itself off.

Simplest ones are called "Milk House" heaters or something like that.

I took care of my mom for almost 15 years and through hospice. I understand trying to keep an elder safe and well.

Thank you for taking care of your loved one.

Merry Christmas my brother.

A new user Chicory asked for someone to tell you the following:

Tell this guy he can buy a new on/off style space heater and buy a timer power cord along with it. It’ll be easier to do that then find a modern mechanical anything nowadays

Cheers,

And Merry Christmas Poal!

The only way that would work is if he HAD to set the time to get it to turn on. Otherwise, he will never remember to set the timer or turn it off.
