So dad has two dogs now. An old, large breed and a small, young dumb yapper. A decade ago he had two cats, 3 small dogs and 2 large dogs. I’m grateful the herd has thinned. His house used to stink of animals and most of them spent far too much time in kennels. Of these two, both get love and attention, and are fed well, but hygiene is an issue. After about a month of trying to get them to the vet and get cleaned and groomed, I took action. The small one had a skin issue. Got it to the vet and gave it the prescribed medicine for a week. She’s doing better. The big ole girl just stinks. I brushed, bathed and cut out all the clumps on the small one. She will go to the groomer next week even if I have to “steal” her. The big one will be bathed tonight. The excuse from dad was it’s too cold outside now and putting her in the tub will lead to the tub getting scraped up. I’m going to put towels over the tub the just put them in the wash after. She’s a big girl and strong. Hopefully she will let me control her in the tub. I’ll find out in a couple hours. Anyway, his pets are just another thing I hadn’t thought of before I started taking care of dad. And another thing I have to take charge of because putting it off isn’t okay. Fingers crossed.
