The murder of Christine Silawan is one of the most gruesome slayings in Philippine history. It happened in March 2019. However, before the start of its investigation, the authorities have first named a suspect involved in other cases with the same MO. His name is Jonas Bueno.

Jonas Bueno has been charged with the murder of a 60-year-old farmer named Trinidad Batucan in January 2019. She was gruesomely killed in almost the same way as Christine Silawan died. Her face was skinned, and her chest was removed.

The person of interest has two brothers, Juvy and Junrey. All three of them were identified as suspects. It was also said that they had founded a cannibal cult after leaving the Communist New People's Army.

Juvy and Junrey were killed in a police operation shortly after the murder of Trinidad Batucan.

Meanwhile, Jonas Bueno, who has many demon tattoos on his body, was located after his Facebook account using the name "Jason Martil" circulated online, giving police the lead to his location in Davao City, and was detained afterward.

According to the NBI, Jonas Bueno, arrested in Purok Santiago, Barangay Matina Crossing, was a fugitive with a pending warrant of arrest for killing Joselito Benitez Lumen on October 2, 2016, in Barangay Sac-on, Carmen town in Cebu.

Jonas Bueno and his brother, Junry, and brother-in-law, Jury Mal-ang, were facing murder charges for killing Lumen, who was shot in the head and body. The suspect told reporters that he and Lumen had engaged in a brawl that left him injured in his left palm after the victim scraped him with a knife. This prompted the suspects to shoot the victim thrice.

Concerning the Christine Silawan case, the authorities have found out that Jonas Bueno was not involved in her murder. The case was solved after Renato Lllenes, another suspect, confessed that he committed the crime. Later on, he killed himself inside his jail cell.

If not because of Christine Silawan's gruesome death and Joselito Lumen's killing, would the authorities have figured out the existence of the so-called "cannibal cult?"  Trinidad Batucan's murder was relatively unknown. There are no crime scene photos or even photos of the victim that can be found online.  Also, there are no updates on whether Trinidad's death has received the justice it deserves. Well, at least, the perpetrator is already in police custody.

Let us hope that the Bueno brothers' cannibal cult has no other members roaming around looking for their next victim.
