I wanted a trans am for 9 months before I got denied a loan when I was 18. Today I realize I’m better off for not having gotten it. Expecting/wanting something doesn’t mean you deserve it, especially at other people’s expense, and it also doesn’t mean that having it will improve your life

How much money do you think it costs to feed, clothe, house, and medically care for a person for their entire life?
$500,000 is considered a small amount for a full retirement, the last 20 or so years of someone’s life, so how much is needed for their entire life? Three times? Five?
Multiply that number by the 400,000 Americans who have downs syndrome. Also consider how many people are born with disorders that are worse than DS. That’s the amount we’ll pay over our lifetimes of labor, sweat, isolation from our families, and taxes so that someone who produced nothing ever can still be learning to color inside the lines when they’re 60.
How on earth can you think that’s a worthwhile expense for any society?
