Stuff like pollution. Like when DuPont pours chemicals in a river, or exon covers an excoststem in crude. We fine, tax, or otherwise charge for these externalities, and relate them to the companies profit.
Yes, the companies Job is to make a profit, and that profit is affected negatively, if their profit affects others negatively
Just like it may be cheaper for me to live my life without car insurance, or proper fire protection in my apartment, but there must be a minimum standard so that my profit doesn't cause problems
