You're only a "lone guy" when all the pussies don't show up because there is "too much at stake"
You are absolutely correct. But in my experience true heroes and leaders are in short supply, and capable competent ones are even more rare. I am not one of them. And I'll wager neither are you.
I'll fight if I'm forced to, but in the meantime I'm keeping my head down.
I agree with you, but you would lose your wager. I am a leader, and it only takes the choice of one to stand up and others will follow. Be the man that runs to the car crash. The other people will respond once you do. You won't be alone if you stop worrying about being alone. Most people are followers, and need to see someone else act before they will. If that is you and that's what you want that is OK, I'm not judging you for it, but if so seek out a leader that you believe in and be willing to act when they do. Otherwise it's not following, it's cowardice.
As they say: Talk is cheap, whiskey is expensive. I don't know you so I can't comment on your character. I do know that true leaders and courageous individuals don't feel they have to talk about themselves as such. They instinctively recognize that they are known by their actions and they are confident enough in their actions so they have no need to proclaim themselves. In short the guy who demands to be the leader/insists he's one brave muther fucker is pretty much guaranteed fall short.
If and when you are tested you may find out some rather surprising facts about yourelf. Having a good opinion about yourself is important and I commend your attitude. But saying is not doing, and when you are faced with an ugly reality it might be a very difficult and painful time for you.
But maybe not. We need more leaders. I'm not going to reject them when they come. I'm just saying keep an open mind, dude.
Cowardice has nothing to do with leading or following. Cowardice is actively choosing to not do the right thing because of moral failing. Some of the bravest men I've ever met were the most unassuming characters, yet when things became difficult they showed a backbone that was humbling. We should strive to live up to such examples.
Besides, rounding up commies to be shot is just common sense. No bravery or leadership is required.
