It sucks that the US is the "Bastion of Free Speech" but we can't even really get that here with regard to video hosting.
To get a 1st amendment, you have to win a war against the British first. We don't have that either in Germany.
Are their big restrictions over there other than holocaust denial?
Not allowed is "excessive" criticism of heads of state, courts or other representatives of the state, also the criticism of representatives of other states (it's complicated: Assad can be called a butcher, Erdogan not. Trump can be insulted, Obama and Biden not). Religion is protected, except Christianity - Charlie Hebdo would not be allowed.
When Merkel had problems with Twitter deplatforming Trump, it was not because she is a fan of free speech, but because it was a private company acting without order from the state. Silencing opinions is still a matter of the courts.
