Self interest. Everything every human does, no exceptions, is based upon self-interest. Show me one exceedingly altruistic bastard, just one. Ya cannot. One either puts forth effort to improve one's lot or to protect the lives of those he loves. Period. One concern in all societies is that some people, by happenstance, become unable to provide for themselves. But FORCING others to sacrifice their own hard earned wealth and property that such unfortunate folk may endure is criminal and just plain wrong. Given the chance to help the fallen, some might freely offer assistance, but even this is selfish. The giver 'feels' better about himself and falsely assumes that others will aide him should he fall on hard times. Bah!
