Idk too much about the Canadian government, but I would think the premiers would have a police force much like our governors have state troopers or counties have sheriffs. Why can't they handle this with out involving the feds?
Lack of political courage apparently.
The RCMP, which is under federal jurisdiction, handles all matters out side of cities that are large enough have their own police force. No province has an equivalent to state troopers or sheriffs.
[edit] I stand corrected, Ontario has a provincial police force.
