Not sure how to feel about this one Poal.

Should I be mad at the Navy for being nasty slobs and just throwing plutonium around everywhere?

Or should I thank them for irradiating the fags in San Fran?

The curious thing is that plutonium is only found in the following places:

  1. As the fissile material inside nuclear weapons or their trigger devices;
  2. Inside reactors where it's being made as part of the nuclear fuel cycle; and,
  3. At re/processing plants where it's extracted from material from 2. and turned into the parts for 1.

It's not like your average squid or naval base played a part in those three steps, though they may have had some nukes pass through in the form of munitions. It's more likely that waste from a processing facility inadvertently/illegally got dumped or disposed of there by a third party. That it was found in asphalt is curious/suspicious indeed.

Radiation itself is not as dangerous as you might think.

Philip said the city health department only found out this month that a type of plutonium called Pu-239 was detected in an air filter

Inhaling ground up plutonium is way more dangerous than being exposed to gamma radiation.
