Must've been an experimental run.
High value land occupied by average Hawaiians, older middle class Hawaiian homes, also the burial site for old Hawaiian Royalty and other historic Hawaiian sites.
The last time I was in Maui was around 1997, Lahaina was my favorite area, the least "developed" tourist town of the island. I met a stunningly beautiful blue eyed blonde gal whose family ran "The Bad Ass Coffee Co" on the main drag. I'll never forget her, very sweet and innocent, no piercings or tats (that I could see), perfect skin. She told me she was 6th generation Hawaiian and had never been to the continental US. If I was staying more than a week I might have had a chance with her. I still have a "Bad Ass Coffee Co" stashed away - the bags of Hawaiian grown coffee I bought are long gone. The tells some of their history.
Nice. Good memories.
