Yeah, I don't travel much but I have found the food and drinks (which are included in the cost of the lounge fee) are well worth it. Especially since the lounge's also have a lot of space, better wifi, they are quiet and if you are a PITA you get kicked out. Oh, the seating is far more comfortable too.
Spend ~30-60 on the lounge (if you have a long layover) ALL food/drinks/wifi/etc are free. You don't have to worry about someone stealing your crap if you use the bathroom (They have their own bathrooms too) and its quiet. Almost any given food place in the airport will cost you at least up to $40 depending on how long you are there and what you want and you wont have good wifi and a quiet place to relax.
I only started paying for a lounge after a co-worker that travels a lot was flying out a the same time I was for a work thing and got me in on a guest pass. Since then, I will always pay for a lounge pass if im going to be in the airport for more than like 2-3 hours.
I'm looking into it. In my terminal there's a lounge that is $79 and closes at 11:30pm. I should be arriving around 9pm. It'll probably take 30 minutes of delay time and moving through the airport, so it would be about 2 hours there. The only other option is finding one in the terminal I'm arriving in. They probably don't have one that is late night or all night. So it's just a waste of time.
Good Luck. Maybe see if there are those odd "sleep pod" things in the airport. Its still not ideal but its a closed space so you don't have to worry about your stuff and can recharge your phone/laptop/etc.
Actually, I just noticed the lounge opens at 4:30 am. That sounds appealing to me. My flight is for 10:50. I normally stay up to what would be 2 am in California. I could spend about 5-6 hours in the lounge if I can get a guest pass. I might try sleep pods. New York's airport used to have them but don't anymore.
