Same thing happened here in Oregon. A friend of mine moved from here to Casper Wyoming, and to drive the truck there and leave it was going to cost around $6000. If it was returned to the U-haul here in Oregon, it came to around $700. Not including fuel of course, which ran about $1200. I didn't complain, he needed a driver, and the wife and I needed a break from each other.

Quite a few people are opting into that, from what the lady at UHaul told me. If the drive isn't too far it can still be cheaper than renting a POD.
