Wow! I stand corrected. This is deeper than I thought.
Don't let the unions off the hook just yet. The sweetheart deal they pulled off this last time is insane. When Biden announced that the ports would be open 24/7 the unions laughed. It's not in their contract, even at overtime rates. All of that had to be negotiated on the fly, with the consumers taking it in the ass again.
The biggest thing that the President and Congress could do is to make it attractive for US businesses to re-home manufacturing, instead of chasing jobs overseas where it's cheaper and more profitable.

The unions have run roughshod over both D and R administrations. Taxation is both a D and R thing. At the highest level there really isn't much separating Ds and Rs when it comes to policy. Only rhetoric.
