I went there this past summer.
It is not hyperbole, it is not a joke.
There are junkies everywhere, and there is more shit on the streets than when I lived in India.
Also food is way too expensive.

It's sad. Once upon a time , San Francisco was a great working class city.
But, according to my mother has been a sickening hell hole since the 1960s "cultural revolution".
