I'm building a new rig and was wondering what the new hotness for motherboards is. It's been a while so I'm out of the loop on the goings-on in the market as of late.

When I got home, I priced processors. AM4 is BY FAR the cheaper option. AM5 will offer long term upgradability, but if budget is a concern, you can build an AM4 rig for about half the price. the 3D options (5700X3D and 5800X3D) are VERY spendy, but if you wait for holidays (4th is coming up), you should be able to score a 5600X for under 100. I got 3 5800X processors for under 100 last year. I will warn this about the processors. Whatever processor you buy, look at the TDP of the processor to assess what your cooling needs will be. For example: My 5800X has a TDP of 105W. I KNOW some of the AM5 high ends will go even higher than that. I use a Phantom Air cooler for mine, because a basic bitch Coolmaster Evo 212 was too little to keep up. But if you use a 65w dealio, like the 5600X (or some others), you can use pretty much whatever you want because they won't run very warm unless you plan to heavily video edit or other demanding stuff.
