I was looking to upgrade my 2080S and then give the 2080S to my son for Christmas.

Well forget that. There is nothing even close to reasonably priced. Hell even the 2080S which I think I paid like 700 something for is over 1000 dollars. I'm not going to pay 2000+ for a 3080. Insane.

I bet this is hurting other pc part manufacturers. If you can't get a graphics card then you likely might put off upgrading the rest of your pc.

Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

I'm sure the graphics card manufacturers are having trouble getting the components to make the dang things. That shit isn't getting any better, it's only getting worse. At my job, we've had to bend the fuck over and pay a broker 2x-4x or even higher per part. These boards have many parts like this. Makes sense some of them are charging insane amounts to recover the "arms and legs" it cost them to run production.

The only way out of this I see is a 10-mile long gallows. I believe there are so many wastes of oxygen walking around right now who will stop at nothing to keep the scamdemic and the shortages going. Some for gain of wealth, some for gain of power. Some even are in it just to spite political opponents. What other mechanism is there to eradicate this pure evil?

Day of the Rope is long overdue.

[–] 15 pts

You'll need to wait at least three months for the rope, it's been backordered.

[–] 5 pts

lmao!

I have plenty of lines for the boat and camping. I can start today!

Not sure how much is due to the shortage vs crypto mining. I was able to get a 3070 for retail price a couple weeks after release. Had to set up alerts on Newegg and a couple other sites and get to the "order" button within seconds of receiving notification. Even then it was sold out while in my cart several times. Think bots are buying everything up before people can get their hands on them.

This is the correct answer.

The GPU companies watched as ETH miners bought their cards wholesale, even at scalper prices, and obtained ROI's in months and then used them to mine at scale.

So, private businesses now JV with the GPU companies to do that so they share the profit.

Brass tacks, it's more profitable for the GPU manufacturers to partner with crypto miners than it is to sell the GPU's to consumers. Welcome to the new normal, enjoy the rapid decline.

Not even close dude. It would take years of 24/7 mining with no difficulty increases with a 3090 to break even at MSRP, and would take 30 years or something to break even at scalper prices.

The media and manufacturers finds it convenient to scapegoat the paper launch on crypto, but crypto miners aren't buying these cards at 3-4x because that would eat their profits and make sure they never broke even.

[–] 0 pt

Did you even read what I said?

The manufacturers themselves are JVing with the miners and sharing the profit. Nobody is paying MSRP.

This is why you sheep are so easily manipulated, you're oblivious and live in a state of self-perpetuated retardation because an internet connection makes you think you're smarter than you are.

[–] 1 pt

This. I read an article a few day ago that talked about record shipping volumes, if that's the case where are they going? I know some cards are not great for mining, so they must be going to resellers (scalpers) hoping to make a few quick bucks.

[–] 0 pt

Crypto fags.

[–] 0 pt

Think about it. You aren't breaking even if you buy a card for $1500 for a 3070 to mine crypto with. Not for 10+ years, and your card would go defunct and not get any hashes way before then.

Manufacturers and the media are just scapegoating crypto miners because it's convenient and most people don't know enough about it to understand how dumb it sounds that they're claiming that crypto miners are paying 3-4x over MSRP to mine with these cards.

IMO that's bullshit. Crypto is a convenient scapegoat but you aren't going to break even within like 10 years by buying a fucking 3070 for $1500 or whatever, so it's not crypto mining doing it.

The 30 series was a paper launch and NVIDIA still won't admit it.

I have a rx580 I paid $100 used like 4 years ago still working strong. 1080, high fps, no issues. If youre just 1080 gaming go used. Now you want 4k, and 6 gorrilian refreshes, etc Its going to be pricey.

[–] 1 pt

Yeah, I'm totally happy with my 2080S for 2k gaming and VR.

I mostly wanted to do this to upgrade my two son's cards. Oldest would have gotten my 2080 and youngest would have gotten a 2060.

Currently the youngest has 960 and it's time for that to be upgraded.

I managed to get my hands on a 3080. A friend of mine with deep pockets bought one, it got lost in shipping (Go figure) and he ordered another one. A few weeks later the one lost in shipping showed up. He sold it to me for about $200 over retail. Which at the time was an incredible deal. VR PC complete.

Nice. I recommend half life alyx. Great game.

can you mod the nigger out?

lawl

He's not in the game much tbh.

It's not just GPUs, it's anything silicon. Some of the Single-board computers I've used in the past have doubled in price and are 6 months out, other devices are well past a year lead time if they're even available.

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

I built a whole new gaming PC in early 2021...... Still using a video card that's about 5 years old. I'm not playing this fucking supply game shit. I'll do with what I've got until this retardation stops. Fuck the scalpers.

[–] 2 pts

Buy a pre-built. You'll get a better deal. Hell, if you have the money and all you need is a GPU, buy a pre-built and take the GPU out. Send me the leftovers so I can finally build a new PC, too.

[–] 0 pt

I have heard about people doing that.

[–] 1 pt

About giving me their leftover PC parts? Really? Because I still have this shitty 10+ year old 3770k build...

[–] 0 pt

lol...

My youngest son is rocking my hand-me-down i5 3570k. Half-Life Alyx is what finally made me upgrade.

[–] 2 pts

Nah man, I got other pc parts fine.

Still runnin an old gpu but combo'd with a 5000 series amd im gettin double to triple frame rates in 1080p

Heya!

Looks like RX 6600 cards are going pretty decent on Newegg.com. Grab the combo for the Gigabyte Eagle and motherboard for like $520, sell off the motherboard. Still a better price for that card than the inferior RX 580 8gb.

You can cut a deal pretty easily on Mercari. Just got to be sure whoever you buy from has previous sales under their belt and is verified. Also be sure to film your package opening for those things. That place has had the best pricing so far from my experience.

For the record, I use a 2070S which I got for $400 at the 30-series announcement. I've been buying lower-priced RX 580 8gb cards for getting started with mining. Not a bad site, but make sure you check who the seller is, or it might be some fuck head from Jew York sending you a keychain and counting on you not being home. Money doesn't officially get transferred to them unless you review them within 3 days. If no review after 3 days, a 5 star review is automatically posted. Good luck.

[–] 0 pt

Have to look at that. Neve heard of it.

[–] 1 pt

Yeah Nvidia gpus are quite a bit more expensive down here in Australia too, I ended up getting an rx 6700xt for $1100 while the 3070's where going for around $1600 :s
