Finally the price of BR blanks has gone down and even M-Disc blanks are affordable. Would it be a good idea to buy a drive for archival purposes? Most cases these days come without a 5.25" bay so wouldn't you risk ending up with discs with data but no drive to read them? Are external hard disk drives the only sensible option for backups?
