It's quite possible, although the list of folks that had the necessary background to produce the Whitepaper and create bitcoin is a lot larger than this article implies.

But it tracks with some of the comments in early bitcoin forums. There were a a number of individuals that claimed it was easy to figure out Satoshi's identity, but the near unanimous conclusion was to drop it. Everyone knew it was would be a shit show if he his identity was confirmed. But the general concensus was to leave the guy alone, if not for him, then for his family that would have to put up with the media and crazy fan boys. But there was a certainty in these groups that it would be pointless to positively identify Satoshi. Which would track, if he was in fact dead. And it would suck for his wife and remaining family if the media jumped on it.
