Used to be the parents would play cool and not approach if I was out, do the old bird "try to lead me away" trick. Now that the young have hatched the ma and pa aren't as reserved in my presence. I just have to look away and in they go.

I put up a box 3 years ago. Blue birds moved in that same week. They generally ignore me. I can hear the babies as they take turns feeding. Mocking birds building in the rose bush again. They'll bust your arse if you get too close after they lay. Good times.

It's funny how much more pleasant a bluebird is compared to a blue jay. I like a good redwing blackbird, subtle, but awesome.

Bluejays are nasty. We had a Redwing blackbird that hung out in our back yard, I really learned to love their call... very complicated once you've heard it all the way through a few times.

I'll take the crackling grackles over bluejays any day. Though I'd definitely rather neither. Had a cardinal singing his song for me the other day. Beautiful bird

Have you tried changing their fire alarm batteries?

I have resisted the urge to intrude upon the nest, but I do believe they're hemoglobin actuated, not battery.
