Over the past month or so I've noticed crows have been dropping peanuts in the shell, burnt toast or hamburger buns in my birdbath, then coming back later to eat the softened food. Someone in the neighborhood is feeding the crows and they've realized that soaking the food in my birdbath makes it easier to eat. It pretty much ruins the bathwater and I dump it out when I see it. Once in awhile if I catch it before it disintegrates I'll leave it out on a table.

The crows scare off the other birds by being noisy and territorial. They seem to have a grudge against the doves here. I'm pretty sure they killed one trying to nest in "their" tree. I respect crows for their smarts and it's fun to watch their social interactions with each other, but when they are not around my yard attracts a lot of smaller songbirds who use the bath to drink and clean themselves.
I'm not planning on doing anything about the situation other than cleaning up the mess though. It's just interesting to watch these things play out.
