If you're not in England where they belong, kill that fucking pest. They literally murder western bluebirds.
Sadly I'm sure that box is intended for a bluebird. I'll have to ask one of the park rangers if they monitor the boxes for house sparrow nests. Idk how they would feel about me bringing a bb gun and taking them out.
I did see several bluebirds around the area so, they seem to be doing well regardless.

Being in North America where they're supposed to be.
idk that they are 'good for' anything per se, other than eating bugs. Just a pretty song bird which isn't as common as the house sparrows. House sparrows were introduced to America in the 1850s and compete with the bluebirds for territory. Luckily bluebirds aren't endangered, but they are considered more desirable.
