Really well written article but, I may have glossed over, why were the slugs only discovered in 1990? They should have been discovered well before if people find them in coffee cups. Are they an imported/invasive species? Why are they called semi-slugs?

It is a bit surprising that there are so many unknowns about the parasite still. It seems that there would be plenty of research that Hawaii would be piggy backing off of from Asia.
