It's probably (hopefully) satire, but pisses me off as Ben Nevis is fucking great if you pick an appropriate day based on your ability. It's advisable to have someone who knows what they're doing with you, but it's totally accessible for a newb and really rewarding. You genuinely appreciate the beauty and only need to pack: Day's worth of food Kendal mint cake Thermos of tea Good walking shoes (and poles if you want) Have winter/cold spring clothing packed if you set off in the warm Anyone in Northumberland, Cumbria or (of course) Scotland is crazy if they've not made the climb.
