Maybe the ones from the 50s were good, but the only fender bass I ever thought was worth playing is their jazz bass. The p bass just doesn't come close.

I like jazz basses better as well. PJ basses are not bad, they have punch, but you don't get that same growl that you can get out of a jazz.
