Having a hard time dealing with such an old cat, who is such a lovely creature.
I took her from her home about a week ago, and she constantly whines about it.
Her owners are old family friends of mine, slightly older than my parents.
Two old intellectual boomers who never got married, not that I blame them for that.
But they both gave into their idiosyncratic tendancies as they got older. The man got older, and continued drinking (again, can't blame him), while the woman got older and continued her habit of ordering shit off ebay.
And now Bill has had a couple of strokes, while Patsy will shortly be having her hip replaced.
Their house is close to the level of a hoarder. Actually, it might be at the level of a hoarder. The only reason I say it might not be, is because I have seen much, much worse in my career.
But the cat, old and vile and angry...
It is a good cat.
I like it very much, despite the fact it yells at me.
Good Kitty.
I get it man, my last cat lived to 20 as a long haired himilayan. Last 2 years of her life basically she couldn't keep up w/ cleaning herself so i'd find myself brushing out her fur daily. I saw your earlier post and was being half sarcastic. I like grumpy old kitties at any rate.
Bro, do you have any advice on old, long haired cat maintenance?
She seems mostly fine, other than the fact that she is pissed off she is in a new place, but I don't think she is cleaning herself that well.
Any advice would be appreciated.
No good advice, just brush em and keep their hair from clumping. Occasionally you gotta bathe them and well that's just awful no matter how you do it.
Wipe her with a slightly damp washcloth, especially areas that are hard to reach, like her head and neck. Brush her with a soft boar bristle brush, plastic or metal ones are too rough.
Cats don’t do well with changes in home or routine, she’s just not adjusting well, which is normal. The important thing is that someone is caring for her. She’ll become comfortable with you in time. Then she’ll love you and forget about her old home.
