Yep, the Avid system has 3d modules that could send batch jobs to 8 computers each and they made cards for SGI(3dfx, teehee) and Dec Alpha hardware. Worked at a place that did a lot of video intro/outrofor/bumps for cable TV stations as a Sys Admin back in 95 and they had an amazing multi-million dollar setup that I used to drool over. I scored a couple of Dec Alpha 200s from that place for free, they were still running the multinode Avid setup when I left in 99.
