This is part of why I kinda dodge beef nowadays. Also some personal experiences. I talk to everything. All plants and animals. I talk to rocks. Cows encircle me and hang on every word I say. They understand and sometimes speak back to me. I'm not comfortable eating that lady's baby. Milk, yes. Child, no. And I know things are complicated in our situation. I just very rarely buy beef nowadays. I also do not eat dogs, cats, horses whales, dolphins or porpoises. Just, no, but thanks anyway.
I hear you... cows can be really cute and show real emotion. I don't think the lives cows live as part of the industrial beef industry are in line with what they deserve. But that is obviously not the life these cows live. The iconic "cow in the pasture on the family farm" is more the life these have and I have no problem with them eventually turning into dinner as long as we give them a decent life. For me the "I will not eat it" line is around domestication. If it can be trained to hold it's piss and shit and ask to go outside to do it's business... then it is a candidate to be excused from my food chain.
I get your point. It's just that my personal experience compels me to use a somewhat different metric.
And I get your point. Do you eat bacon? Pigs can be cute also. For someone who says "I talk to rocks" I would think this logic would be a slippery slope ending with you not wanting to eat anything.
