miniatur-panzerkampfwagen!
That thing is going to kill you in your sleep.
If it wasn't so dumb as shit I might worry about that.
Seems like your review and thoughts here would be invaluable to their engineers. You should forward a copy of them verbatim. Couple questions:
The mower itself looks fairly robust. While your yard looks pretty large, the grass appears fairly thin. Does the mower handle it well, and how often do you think you'll have to mow with it so it's manageable? Curious on battery life too - how long can it mow if grass density is similar to what you show here?
But here's the big one: Does it have options - oem or otherwise - for mounting armaments?
Actually having never seen a robot lawn mower, performance appears better than I imagined.
I have written them a couple of times with my thoughts. I have done my best to be polite. It is very robust, metal construction other than the body, it's a little tank. The grass is a bit thin right now because it's just getting into the growing season. It can mow about 1.7 acres per day. Basically it starts out in the morning at 100% charge. It mows for about 2 hours down to 15% and then heads back to the charging base to recharge up to 80% (Supposedly about 2 hours, more like 4) then off to mow again. Does that a couple of times per day and mows 6 days a week to keep my entire lawn mowed. I need to figure out why it's taking so long to charge. No optional attachments. I almost went with the Yarbo which is much larger and has lots of attachments. I might get one of those for my WA place, the snowblower attachment is bad ass.
the snowblower attachment is bad ass.
Ah - there's perhaps hope for armaments then!
I for one welcome our lawn bot overlords.
I'm considering one, but so far, I'm not impressed with how they behave. They seem to be very strict with how they're installed. They require tethers or buried signal lines. They don't seem to learn where they are, but rely on physical restraints.
Has an engineer ever spent a single day with this thing
Absolutely not. And if they did, bean counters said no. That's too expensive. Ship it!
You should be able to draw a border on a map as a geo fence. But no, these devices aren't there yet.
You're pointing out the biggest problem with devices: it's a lifestyle, not an appliance.
I love the "don't steal me" sticker.
Well, they do not need underground wire or anything anymore. It is all run off of the GPS RTK system which is supposed to be able to get down to centimeter level accuracy. When you initially set it up, you just drive it around the perimeter and it literally draws a map like you described. And it's great for staying inside that boundary most of the time. If it loses its RTK signal it will be far less accurate. There are no physical restraints, and it does not seem to use its cameras very well, it does not learn at all.
I have a very complex yard though so it has been a chore to get it set up. If you had a big wide open yard with a good sky view this thing would be amazing
