Google Buttons; discontinued after 2 weeks like half their other shit.
They'll replace it with Google Press!, a complex API of keys, OAUTH, and pipes that even an experienced programmer would cry about. You'll be automagically opted in to this system and it will start sharing your buttons (or lack thereof.) That will be discontinued after 6 months, and Google Indentations will be released. This will be a complete identity provider across the whole infrastructure that you'll need to sign up for and provide your real name and address just to use other services like mail and youtube - even if you don't have any buttons. People will add you to their buttons list without you knowing about it. This will run for about 6-7 years while the front end is changed every 6 months. Button functionality will be changed constantly and go from an open protocol to a google-only protocol while breaking the press and release portions into different systems with their own logins and APIs. The only thing anyone will ever talk about is how you can put a photograph on the button (button not actually available) before it gets shut down completely. Enterprise customers will be able to use Google FingerWackenDownInput if they have the correct license, but even that will be terminated after a few years with multiple other enterprise-level offerings. Meanwhile the ZigBee Machine Push Protocol (ZMPP) symposium will crow about how many people are using their open system when in reality most people have forgotten it exists. Other button providers will try to enter the system with heavy duty protocols like ItMatters! but will have a hard time due to the strange requirements and overloaded system back-ends.
People get tired of and don't use buttons, and the whole thing becomes a niche product before being relegated to homebrew things where hackers at devcons talk about running open-source panix kenels on their buttons, but don't actually have any uses cases for that.
Google pushes buttons to the back burner and ignores them while Chinese companies provide cheap, easy-to-use buttons that talk to almost anything and cost a fraction of a Google Button.
Bravo! I want buttons on every surface of my home! Preloaded with any and fly pic.
I made a better shitpost on this. https://poal.co/s/ShitpostSubway/793134
