This is why you only work with products that are local-first or local-only. If you rely on "someone else's computer" you are going to have a bad time. Im glad I never bought any of that MyQ stuff since that would really piss me off to have to scrap it all and replace it.

From the post: "TL;DR: The MyQ integration will be removed from Home Assistant in release 2023.12 on December 6, 2023. Chamberlain Group, the owners of MyQ, have released a public statement saying they will continue blocking access to third-party apps, like the MyQ integration. For current MyQ users we recommend ratgdo, a device that physically connects to your MyQ garage door opener and allows you to control it locally."

My reaction to this is simply connect an ESP32 to your garage door opener and automate the ESP32 through whatever home automation protocol you want. ESP moduals are about $4-8 dollars, have WiFi, bluetooth and a huge library of software you can use to talk to it.

Personally, I won't use any cloud based automation system simply because I don't want to get in that situation where the provider can no longer support the protocol. The OP is 100% correct.

ESP32

I'm addicted to them...

I would characterize it as more of a hoarding. I'd buy 10 at a time because they were so cheap. Then I'd find even cooler versions and buy 10 of those too. I had no projects in mind but bought them because I didn't want to be stuck with no supply, like Raspberry Pi.

Once a company decides to be hostile to its customers, the only way we can win is by not playing their game at all. Do not buy products or services from companies that treat their customers this way. Tell your friends not to deal with companies that treat their customers this way. Buy products that work locally and won’t stop functioning when management wants an additional revenue stream.

Absolutely 100%. They want to be hostile to you.. don't give them money. There are tons of alternatives.
