Anyone else finding it difficult to contact local tradies lately? Multiple contractors who I've trusted to do work for me in the past have all seemingly gone AWOL over the past few months (no longer respond to texts, websites still active but not updated since early 2020, etc.)

Raptured? Out of business? Fled the state? Fucked up by long covid or vax?

Lots of people who were vaccinated suddenly died or underwent an unplanned early retirement event.

All at the same time, within a few weeks or months of being vaccinated.

I had a maid coming in twice a month. It was great.

Then she missed a visit. Gave me a dog ate my homework excuse. No big deal.

Next visit back to normal.

Then she missed the next three in a row.

I thought maybe it's just me, but I talked to one of her other customers, and she's not seen her either.

She just fell off the grid. Gone. She didn't die yet I think, but she can't work anymore.

Trying to find a new maid now, with no takers so far.

Take that phenomenon, and apply it across the board to every industry.

...AND we lost the leaders and most experienced staff first.

Contractors I've talked to are months behind, and others are just turning away from any new work at all. They have far more than they can handle as it is, and they can't replace the people they also lost.

It's not just Australia. It's nearly the entire first world.

My favorite mechanic disappeared, phone no longer connected and he's not at his shop, if he owns it anymore. Incredibly disappointing and sad, I really liked the guy and we have known each other for about fifteen years.

I'm flat out. Hardly answer the phone or email. Just swamped. Over it. Was gonna shut it all down if they made vax mandatory for construction site. Was looking forward to just doing cashies and stop paying the government.

All the good tradesmen i know have more work then they can handle and are not taking on new client's or contracts.

I know guys with so much work they are increasing costs and cutting back advertising/marketing to diswade new clients from contracting them. Supply and demand is a powerful force.

It seems like in the United States the coronavirus exercise has convinced a lot of people that it is not necessary to work. All of the tradesmen in my area are overwhelmed with work. The wealthy have a lot of cash to spend right now, and the tradesman cannot find any employees to help them out. Real wages have jumped about 25% for the working class because of this. It is fucking crazy. They’re not answering phone calls here either because they have work booked for the next six months, 70 hours a week.

I don’t think that legalizing marijuana helped either. These people are content to work a couple days a week at a shitty part time jobs so they can afford to buy a little pot. They don’t think of them self as “lazy” they think of themselves as “free”.

Free money from the government coupled with a disinclination to fuck with Covid regulations.
