Compared to the US/elsewhere how much of a grip do they have, or is it a different type of influence? I know missed hacked into their prism system in the 80s, and know it's certainly become a neo testing ground, but curious about the dynamic.

Each state government has a different dynamic, all have different aspects of feeling "un-Australian".

I'm in Victoria which basically feels like a separate country now, isolated from the rest of Australia, with Dan Andrews as dictator of Victoria and ruling by executive decrees announced every few days. Our state went full communist very rapidly and now we can't travel more than 10km from our homes without permits, be outside after 9pm at night (helicopter patrols at 2am) or leave the state.

Some people gathered at the shrine of remembrance (ww1 memorial but look at the construction) to demand their freedoms and the authorities REALLY didn't like that. The media later announced that the protestors had desecrated sacred ground (what religion?) even though they were just everyday people sitting on the steps.

Getting weird around here.
